How to Record VR180 Videos: A Step-by-Step Guide
VR180 rewards good fundamentals more than fancy gear. Get the setup, framing, and lighting right, and even an entry-level camera will produce footage that feels genuinely immersive in a headset. Here's a practical, step-by-step approach.
1. Set up your camera correctly
Mount your VR180 camera on a stable tripod or gimbal at a natural eye-level height for seated or standing viewers, depending on the scene. Because both lenses need to stay level and parallel, avoid handheld shooting unless your camera has strong built-in stabilization — even small tilts are much more noticeable in stereoscopic 3D than in flat video.
2. Think in terms of a fixed window, not a moving camera
Unlike flat video, you generally shouldn't pan or move a VR180 camera during a shot. The viewer controls where they look within the 180-degree window; a moving camera fights against that freedom and can cause discomfort. Instead, plan your scene so the action happens within the frame, and let the viewer choose where to focus.
3. Frame for depth, not just composition
Place foreground elements — a hand, a prop, a plant — a few feet from the camera. That's where stereoscopic depth is most convincing and where viewers will feel the biggest "wow" moment.
