3D360 Stabilized Walkthrough video edited by using automatic masking function of Kolor AVP2beta2.

Stabilized 3D360 Walkthrough video is one of my goals of my 4XGoPro3 and 3D masking project.?Stereoscopic masking for 3D360 has been applied successfully with stitching tools e.g. PTGui+Batch rendering and/or VideoStitch so far. However there have been several unsolved problems e.g. productivity, post stabilization capability and vignetting etc.

With Kolor AVP, post stabilization is powerful but it does not support masking onto input video but on warped video only. I tried to test by applying a lots of red and green stumps in APG for 3D masking and found to work just fine, however it also has severe productivity problem.
Good news from Kolor. AVP2beta starts supporting stereoscopic masking for various kinds of 3D mask including vertical and horizontal half masking which is exactly compatible to my 3D360 procedure.

Here is a short test example video of stabilized 3D360 Walkthrough in the LED light tunnel at Nabana Park edited on AVPbeta2.

The 3D process is completely automatic and I just selected the horizontal masking in the setting in order to differentiate L and R videos ! I look forward to the final release of this function in AVP2 in a improved manner near future.

For comparison I was also recording with my phone panning to capture the action I found most interesting. There is more detail but the camera crops into the action and you are forced to watch where the camera was pointing.

The zenith was crudely patched in post production.

• Notes about the Oculus Rift / Stereoscopic support:

  • This is only a first and experimental implementation!
  • The rendering itself is not fully correct - instead of applying the Oculus Rift lens distortions, only an approximated krpano fisheye distortion is used. The chromatic aberration of the Oculus Rift lens is not corrected yet.
  • The IPD, which stands for interpupillary distance, is the distance between your pupils, can be changed in the rift.xml. The default setting is 63,5mm. The IPD can be changed at runtime by using the +/- keyboard keys.
  • Note - this is only a temporary solution - there will be be later a dedicated krpano version with direct stereoscopic support (only one viewer with the possibility to switch anytime between normal and VR mode).
